As the seasons start to change and the weather becomes colder, we are here with some tips on how storage is perfect for your RV, boats, or other recreational vehicles during the colder season. In order to keep your RV in the best condition for next year’s adventures, it is essential to store your vehicles properly during the winter season. Here are some storage tips on how to keep your vehicles safe during the winter season.
- Clean and Examine the Exterior – Before looking into putting your RV into storage, spend time examining your vehicle. Look for any holes, leaks, cracks, rust, or other damages that can be affected by the colder weather. If you notice any damages take your time and contact your local repair shop to get it fixed before the colder weather comes. Once you have determined that there is no damage, it is time to clean the exterior before looking into storage.
- Clean and Examine the Interior – To avoid getting mold, mildew, and pest, thoroughly clean the interior of your vehicle. During the camping season you are likely to store food, electronics, and clothing. Before placing your RV in storage, determine what items you want to keep or remove from the inside of the RV.
- Disconnect the RV Battery – If the battery is left in the RV while in storage, it can freeze and become unusable. We recommend disconnecting the battery and store it in a cool dry place. To prevent it from dying in storage, charge it once it reaches below 80%. If you are planning on keeping your battery in the RV, Milt’s Mini Storage offers covered parking with trickle charging.
- Block or Jack Your Tires – To prevent your tires from getting flat in storage during winter, we recommend blocking or jack your tires. If you are able to drive your RV around, this will help rotate your tires.
- Cover the RV and Tires – The winter elements and UV rays can damage the exterior of your RV and your tires. Milt’s Mini Storage offers cover outside parking storage to help prevent some of those elements from getting on your vehicle.
